How Much Does IKEA Assembly Cost in Brighton?

Most flat-pack jobs in Brighton & Hove are charged one of two ways: by the item for one or two pieces, or by time when you have a whole room to build. Whichever works out cheaper for you is the one we quote.

Our standard labour rates:

BookingCostTypically covers
First hour£40A bookcase, TV unit or chest of drawers
Each additional hour£35Each extra item after the first
Half day (up to 4 hrs)£140A full bedroom — wardrobe, bed, drawers
Full day (up to 7 hrs)£250A whole flat move-in or a PAX wall

There is no call-out charge and no minimum booking beyond the first hour. If a job finishes faster than quoted, you pay the lower amount.

Which pricing is cheaper for you?

1–2 items: per-item pricing usually wins. A single bookcase is £30–£60.

3–5 items: a half day at £140 almost always beats item-by-item.

Whole flat: a full day at £250 is the cheapest per item by a wide margin.

Wall-fixing (anti-tip brackets, floating shelves, wall-hung units) is included. Fixings suitable for Brighton's lath-and-plaster and solid-brick walls are supplied at cost.

What Changes the Cost

  • Item size and part count. A PAX combination has several hundred parts; a BILLY has around twenty. Time scales with parts, not with price paid at IKEA.
  • Wall fixing. Anything tall must be anchored. Brighton's Victorian lath-and-plaster walls need different fixings to modern plasterboard, which adds a little time.
  • Access. Third-floor conversions without a lift — common in Kemp Town and Seven Dials — add carrying time if boxes are still at street level.
  • Doors and drawers alignment. Sliding PAX doors need careful levelling, especially on the sloping floors typical of period conversions.
  • Old furniture removal. We can dismantle and bag the old unit for you; add roughly half an hour per item.

IKEA Assembly Cost — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does IKEA furniture assembly cost in the UK?

Expect £30–£60 for a bookcase, £40–£65 for a chest of drawers and £60–£100 for a standard PAX wardrobe. In Brighton & Hove we charge £40 for the first hour and £35 for each hour after, or £140 for a half day if you have several items — whichever is cheaper for you.

How much does it cost to assemble an IKEA PAX wardrobe?

A standard 2-door PAX is £60–£100 and takes 1.5–2.5 hours. A larger PAX combination with sliding doors and internal fittings is £100–£150 and takes 2.5–4 hours. Wall-anchoring is included — PAX units must be fixed to the wall, and Brighton's period walls often need specific fixings.

Is it cheaper to pay per item or per hour?

For one or two pieces, per item is usually cheaper. From about three items onwards a half day at £140 works out better, and a whole flat is cheapest on a full day at £250. We look at your list and quote whichever is lower.

Do you charge a call-out fee for flat-pack assembly?

No. There is no call-out charge, no booking fee and no platform commission. The price you are quoted is the price you pay, and if the job takes less time than estimated you pay less.

Can you assemble furniture from Argos, Wayfair or Amazon too?

Yes. IKEA is the most common but we assemble any flat-pack — Argos, Wayfair, Amazon, Made, Habitat and second-hand pieces that need rebuilding after a move. The same rates apply.
